Why We Started Kamiyon Studio: A Letter from Our Founder

Sherwin Limosnero

To everyone who has found their way here —

Thank you. Truly. The fact that you’re reading this means the world to me, and I want to start by saying that this letter isn’t a press release or a polished corporate announcement. It’s just me — Sherwin — sitting down and trying to put into words something I’ve been carrying in my heart for a very long time.

Kamiyon Studio didn’t start in a boardroom. It started in a small room with a secondhand laptop, a lot of instant noodles, and a stubborn belief that games made here — in the Philippines, by Filipinos — could move people. Could inspire them. Could make them feel seen.

I grew up playing games that took me to worlds I never imagined. They gave me courage when I felt small, wonder when life felt ordinary, and connection when I felt alone. But as I got older, I kept asking myself: where are the stories that feel like ours? Where are the heroes who look like us, who speak like us, who carry the same joys and struggles that we carry? I didn’t have a good answer. So I decided to try and build one.

The Dream Behind the Studio

Founding Kamiyon Studio was never just about making games. It was about proving something — to ourselves and to every young kid in the Philippines who ever dreamed of making something creative and was told it wasn’t practical, wasn’t realistic, wasn’t worth pursuing. It was about building a space where that dream could breathe.

We want to make games that are genuinely, unapologetically Filipino in spirit — not as a gimmick or a marketing angle, but because we believe our culture, our mythology, our humor, our resilience, and our warmth are extraordinary sources of storytelling. We also want to make games that speak to anyone, anywhere in the world, because great stories always do.

This studio is our answer to the question I kept asking. And we’re just getting started.

Create. Play. Inspire.

Those three words are more than a tagline to us. They’re a promise — to our players, to our community, and to each other.

Create is where everything begins. It’s the act of making something from nothing, of sitting with a blank canvas and daring to put something on it. For our team, creating is sacred. It means taking risks, trying things that might not work, and caring deeply about craft. Every pixel, every line of dialogue, every mechanic we design — it all comes from a place of genuine love for the medium.

Play is the heart of why any of this matters. Play is how humans learn, connect, and find joy. It’s how we process difficult emotions and celebrate beautiful ones. When someone sits down with one of our games, we want them to feel free — free to explore, to fail, to try again, to laugh, to feel something real. Play is not trivial. Play is essential.

Inspire is the reason we get up in the morning. If even one person plays something we’ve made and walks away feeling a little more hopeful, a little more curious, a little more willing to chase their own dream — then we’ve done our job. We want our games to be the kind of experience that stays with you. The kind you think about on the commute home. The kind you tell your friends about.

What We’re Building Together

We have big dreams, and I won’t pretend otherwise. We’re working on games that span different genres and moods — some that will make you laugh, some that will make you think, and some that might just make you cry a little (in the best way). We’re exploring stories rooted in Filipino folklore and history, as well as original worlds built from the ground up.

But beyond the games themselves, we’re building a community. A place where players, aspiring developers, artists, writers, and dreamers can come together and feel like they belong. We want Kamiyon to be a name that means something — not just a studio, but a movement of people who believe that creativity is worth fighting for.

We’re a small team right now, and that’s okay. The best things often start small. What we lack in size, we make up for in heart, and I am endlessly proud of the people who have chosen to take this leap with me.

An Invitation

If you’re a player — thank you for giving us a chance. Your time and attention are the most precious things you can offer, and we don’t take that lightly.

If you’re an aspiring developer or artist — I see you. Keep going. The path is hard and the doubts are loud, but you belong in this industry, and the world needs what only you can make.

If you’re just someone who stumbled across this page and isn’t quite sure what Kamiyon is yet — welcome. Stick around. We think you’ll like what’s coming.

This is the beginning of something I’ve dreamed about for years, and I couldn’t be more grateful to be starting it with all of you. The journey ahead is long, and I know there will be challenges we haven’t anticipated yet. But I also know that we’re building something real, something meaningful, and something worth the effort.

Let’s create. Let’s play. Let’s inspire each other.

With so much gratitude and excitement,

Sherwin Limosnero Founder, Kamiyon Studio
